Last Post Presentation

My topic was Mind Enhancers and I learned about the Nervous System. I thought that I had some positive points in my presentation like speaking clearly, trying to know the information and not just read it, and I think that I had some good information. I learned about technology by making a website and I can now design and publish a good webpage. I did this through a program called “Yola” which was easy to learn and very user friendly. I learned about “Yola” from Katie and Cassidy.

Today I worked more on my webpage. I made a new page on the risks of taking cognitive enhancing drugs. There are risks like insomnia, loss of appetite, and headaches. I read that some people think that in the future we will develop better mind enhancers with fewer side effects. I also learned how to link a video to my website and I found a good one on YouTube. The video was a discussion about an article in Nature magazine about college students taking mind enhancers.

Today I worked more on my website. I learned a little bit about Dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter in your brain that plays a large role in your sleeping, learning, and attention. On my presentation I have almost finished the section on the Nervous System so now I can focus more on the controversial issue. I am finding my topic of controversy very interesting and I can’t wait to finish my project. I realized that I still have to comment on one others person’s blog. My last comment was on Erynn’s blog which is about Bulimia.

Today I learned about mind enhancing drugs and the various types of people who may be using them. Is it okay for doctors to take drugs which calm their nerves before a risky surgery or for pilots to take medications that keep them awake and alert? I think that we would all agree that if there are minimal health risks and you are saving lives then why wouldn’t you take these drugs. The real controversy arises when college students are taking unneeded prescription medications to help them study for big exams. Would you consider this cheating or do you think that it should be allowed on campuses?
